Mylius M72: A Performance Cruiser Engineered for Precision

Mylius Yachts, partnering with Carkeek Design, has initiated the development of the M72—a 72-foot sailing yacht crafted to blend competitive performance with cruising adaptability. Designed for owners desiring both racing prowess and onboard luxury, the M72 sets a new standard in the 70-foot segment through cutting-edge engineering, elegant design, and a wide range of customization options.

Naval Design and Architecture

Naval architect Shaun Carkeek, known for his expertise in high-performance racing hulls, has crafted the M72 to provide speed and efficiency while maintaining aesthetic appeal. The yacht showcases a reverse bow, streamlined waterlines, and a sleek deckhouse. Each component—from the retractable anchor system to the hidden propeller shaft—has been optimized for minimizing hydrodynamic resistance and improving functionality.

Constructed purely from prepreg carbon fiber at the Mylius shipyard located in Piacenza, Italy, the M72 boasts a lightweight yet durable construction. The hull design incorporates a twin-rudder system, lifting keel, and water ballast tanks, facilitating outstanding speed and stability across diverse sailing conditions. The flared bow and expansive stern enhance righting moment and control, while the optional 3.9-meter draft permits access to shallower cruising areas.

Sail Configuration and Deck Layout

The sail plan for the M72 is tailored in alignment with the hull for maximum balance and performance efficiency. Featuring a 29.9-meter high-modulus carbon mast from Hall Spars, it is complemented by a carbon boom and bowsprit. The standard racing setup includes a square-top mainsail, J2 jib, Code 0, and A3 sail, with additional smaller sail configurations available for cruising purposes.

The deck is constructed from flush-laminated carbon and can be finished in either teak or Skydry, creating an uncluttered and efficient workspace for the crew. Dual helm wheels are positioned at the front, allowing for enhanced space at the rear for sunbathing. The cockpit boasts ergonomic seating, a detachable dining table, and is shielded by a retractable bimini and optional awning. The transom opens up to create a swim platform and tender garage, maximizing utility during anchoring.

Interior Design and Customization

Interior design crafted by Studio Parisotto+Formenton Architetti epitomizes Mylius Yachts’ dedication to artistry and space efficiency. The standard layout features three cabins with ensuite bathrooms, a fully equipped galley, and a central dining area. The keel box is seamlessly integrated into the main saloon and accompanied by a pullman berth and study. Owners have the opportunity to customize layout configurations, materials, finishes, and color schemes to align with their personal tastes.

Technological Integration and Systems

The M72 integrates state-of-the-art marine technologies using 3D design software and finite element analysis for optimal structural development. A programmable logic controller (PLC) oversees onboard systems, including telemetry and automatic water ballast management. These technological advancements facilitate precise performance tracking and ease of handling, even with a smaller crew.

Shipyard Expertise

Situated in Podenzano, Mylius Yachts has built a reputation for crafting high-performance sailing yachts ranging from 55 to 80 feet. The shipyard’s philosophy prioritizes speed, design excellence, and superior craftsmanship. In addition to sailing vessels, Mylius has branched into the manufacture of fast, comfortable motorboats, continually emphasizing performance and innovation.
